Termite risk in Gables NSW
Gables borders Scheyville and its bushland, and termites are active across greater Sydney regardless of how new a house is. New homes carry a termite management system, recorded on a durable notice usually fixed in the meter box. We have found that notice missing on Gables builds. The rest of the risk is about conditions we can see: cladding too close to soil, ground falling towards walls, and blocked or buried weep holes.
Close to bushland
The suburb borders Scheyville. Timber, leaf litter and moisture in bushland support termite colonies, which is why conditions around the house matter.
The management notice
AS 3660 systems are recorded on a durable notice. Without it, the next inspector cannot tell what was installed or when.
Clearance to the soil
Cladding needs at least 150mm clearance to the ground. Less, and termite entry can go unseen.
Ground and garden
Garden beds and mulch against brickwork can bridge the inspection zone. Keep them back from the walls.
Regular inspections
Annual timber pest inspections are the practical safeguard for most homes.
